Even a burning funeral pyre can ignite a spark of thoughts in me and transform into a piece of art: Nawal Gandhi

I communicate with nature & everything happening around me. I can talk with trees, rivers, clouds, rocks and even a funeral pyre for hours. Its simple observation. It’s like going into deep meditation. It allows me to put every nonsense off around me. This sets a perfect setting for breeding of the very basic prerequisite to draw an art – the idea.    Meet the new artist on the block,  Nawal Gandhi who comes to connect you with his first collection of art ‘ARAMBH- Pehla Kadam’.

In a candid conversation with Jaipur affairs at his studio , Nawal explains with his deep eyes that how since childhood he had a natural inclination towards art, but it took a long journey before he finally plunged his feet firmly in the field of professional art.

This is how Nawal cites, when quizzed about how art became an integral part of his life.
I always had a fascination towards nature & surroundings. Narratives of my childhood are half told without citing mud, bathing and dancing in the rain. I was never a meritorious student, but after exiting from the formal education system on completion of graduation, I started working in fashion designing. While the job profile of fashion designer offered me environment to use my creative skills, being in a business house, I was never accessible to opportunity to cross my limits beyond market factors. This created an urge to explore the idea of doing something at my own and getting the canvas to fly my wings of idea in every possible direction. This is how my journey of an artist began.

I have named my first collection as ‘Arambh – pehla kadam’ which is in tune with my present stage of being in professional art.  While this is my first collection , this required an investment of whopping period of 5 years to create a collection of 125 pieces of art. Since ‘Ganesha’ signifies ‘the beginning – Arambh’ , all 125 frames of my collection have GANESHA ;  Nawal puts light when enquired about his collection.   Every frame in the collection is unique in its own way and depicting ‘Ganesha’ in different concepts and natural settings.

The most interesting fact Nawal says about his art is that he is not biased with any formal and conventional materials used when putting his art to life. While sometimes you can see working him with wood pieces, at another point of time you can watch him engaged with stones also. To express himself, he looks for tools & materials from the nature only.

“I try to keep every element of my art piece as close to nature as possible by using natural components”; Nawal explains while pointing to the natural algae he used in one of his art to portray algae itself around the water.

Nawal speaks excitedly about his next collections which are based on ‘Old Civilization’ and ‘Debris – Remains of buildings (Khandhar)’.  I always get my inspiration from nature and the surroundings. As of now ; I cannot reveal much about the collection to you, but be assured to get absolute delight if you are an art lover. Despite art being a costly affair, I am not going to be stopped and you should keep expecting something interesting from me. I want everyone to be in love with art, as a mere observation of art allows you to relieve yourself and takes you towards tranquility.

We wish Nawal a good luck for his current and forthcoming collections.
